Kamenko, Moore Recognized With All-GLIAC First Team Honors

Overall, four Warrior women's tennis players recognized with honors by the GLIAC

DETROIT -- Following a season in which the Wayne State women's tennis squad finished 16-2 overall (13-1 GLIAC), the conference is recognizing four Warrior tennis players for their achievements.

WSU sophomore Yahsha Moore (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Wayne State freshman Julia Kamenko (Thornhill, Ont./Vaughan S.S.) were each named to the 2012 All-GLIAC Women's Tennis Team by the league's coaches following the conclusion of the season.

Moore moved up to No. 1 singles in her sophomore season following playing primarily No. 3 singles during her freshman season and didn't disappoint, finishing with a 12-4 record (10-4 in GLIAC play). It's the second straight season that Moore has been recognized after finishing All-GLIAC Second Team in 2011. For her career, Moore is 33-7 in her first two seasons at Wayne State.

Kamenko finished her freshman season undefeated at No. 2 singles for the Warriors. Kamenko recorded a 16-0 record, including 14-0 in GLIAC competition.

Kamenko wasn't the only freshman to make her mark in her first season on campus. Fellow freshman Alex Poissant (Laval, Que./Vanier Prep) was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team after a season in which the freshman produced a 16-1 record (14-0 GLIAC) at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Anne Li Briand (Repentigny, Que./Ecole Secondaire Felix-Leclerc) also earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention, putting four Wayne State players on conference teams. Li Briand finished her sophomore season at 17-0 and a 14-0 mark in conference play at No. 4 singles. Li Briand is 36-5 in two seasons at WSU.
