Baseball Qualifies For NCAA Midwest Regional

Wayne State to also serve as host institution


DETROIT - For the third straight season, the Wayne State University baseball team earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional, which begins Thursday in Ypsilanti, Mich.  WSU will also serve as the host institution for the tournament to be held at Oestrike Stadium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University.

Wayne State (34-19) is the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Regional and will face Northern Kentucky (35-20) in the first round Thursday.  The Warriors and Norse were the runners-up in the GLIAC and GLVC Tournaments, respectively, over the weekend.

The Warriors will play in the Midwest Regional for the fifth time since 2005.

The other matchups in the double-elimination tournament include top seed Indianapolis (42-14) against Lewis (33-20) and No. 2 seed Grand Valley State (41-14) facing Rockhurst (32-17).

A total of 48 teams across eight regional sites will compete for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championship finals, May 26-June 2 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
