Volleyball Adds Another To 2012 Recruiting Class

Port Huron's Heather Weiss joins class of 2012

DETROIT - Wayne State University head volleyball coach Phil Nickel has announced that Heather Weiss, an outside hitter from Port Huron High School, signed a National Letter of Intent this spring to enroll at WSU and join the volleyball program in the fall.

“We are very happy to add Heather to our volleyball family," said Nickel.  "Heather really stood out at camp last summer, so we were excited when she signed to be a Warrior.  She is a very good student, an outstanding young person, and has a ton of potential on the volleyball court.  We expect Heather to develop into a very good player for us.”

Weiss, who will graduate from Port Huron High School in June, played three years on the Big Reds varsity volleyball squad and was an MVP and All-MAC First Team selection.  She hit .366 with 116 blocks, 157 digs and a .954 serving percentage as a senior.  A three-sport athlete, Weiss also played varsity basketball and hockey at Port Huron, where she also earned All-MAC Academic honors, was Port Huron's valedictorian and a National Honor Society member.

Wayne State has four incoming players this fall - Weiss, Kelsey Bonewits, Essence Jackson-Jones and Madison Reeves.  They will join a program which has qualified for the GLIAC Tournament in all four years of Nickel's tenure.  Wayne State finished 14-14 overall and 10-9 in the conference last season.
