Detroit, Mich. - Wayne State softball has recently been acknowledged by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as one of the top academic teams in the nation. WSU placed 18th among all NCAA Division II schools in the country. Collectively, they earned a team GPA of 3.308 for the 2007-08 school year.
On the field, a successful regular season placed them in a tie with Ferris State for No. 1 in the GLIAC. WSU finished third at the NCAA regional tournament and the Warriors ended the year ranked 20th overall in the final 2008 NFCA Division II poll.
Wayne State has the distinction of being one of only six teams to make the top 20 in both the NFCA 2007-08 rankings and the Division II All-Academic Team rankings.
Last year's squad also produced three NCAA Great Lakes Regional All-Tournament selections, as well as 10 Academic All-GLIAC honorees.
