SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Wayne State University women's cross country team took first place at the Chris Yanni Memorial Lake Invitational hosted by Lake Superior State University.
The Warriors as a team collected 15 points and all seven runners finished in the top 10. Ferris State came in second place with 49 points, Northwood finished third with 88 points and host team Lake Superior State completed with 99 points.

Brittany Johnson (Oxford, Mich.) placed first beating Kelly Schubert of UNA-Central Michigan in a time of 21:44.53.
Senior
Lauren Gagnon (Waterford, Mich. / Waterford Mott) and junior
Kayla Balfour (St. Clair, Mich.) were within four seconds of each other. Gagnon came across the line at 22:06.18 earning third place and Balfour crossed the line in fourth place and a time of 22:10.84.
Chelsea Johnson (Oxford, Mich.) finished fifth overall and had a time of 22:20.85. Senior
Kayla Smade (Columbus, Mich. / St. Clair) was sixth in a time of 22:58.00.

Cara Smock (Wyandotte, Mich. / Roosevelt) earned eighth place finish with a time of 22:58.00, while sophomore
Leah Coonrod (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Gull lake) finished 10th with a time of 23:25.67.
The Warriors will travel to Tiffin, Ohio on Nov. 8th to race in the GLIAC Championships.
