The
American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday afternoon that Wayne State University senior outside hitter
Sarha Gosselin (Harrison Twp., Mich./Warren Lincoln) was chosen as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week.
Gosselin, who was also announced as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
South Division Player of the Week on Tuesday, led Wayne State to three victories last weekend at the Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover in Lansing. She totaled 50 kills (4.17 per set) and hit .393 with 26 digs, six service aces and nine blocks.
In Friday's five-set victory over Northern Kentucky University, she reached a career-high 22 kills and added 13 digs for seventh double-double of the season. She had 14 kills against Drury University on Friday and again Saturday versus St. Joseph's College. Gosselin was named to the Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover All-Tournament Team for her performance.
This is the first time that a Wayne State player has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week.
Gosselin ranks fourth in the GLIAC in kills (3.36) and 16th in hitting percentage (.229). She has helped guide the Warriors to a 17-5 record, already matching the team's 2008 win total. The 2009 squad is the first to win 17 of its first 22 matches since the 1997 Tartars were 19-3.
Wayne State has five matches remaining in the regular season, including three at home. GLIAC South Division foe Northwood will visit the Matthaei this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
