Three members of the Wayne State fencing team have earned bids to compete in next week’s 2010 NCAA Championship.

Senior Slava Zingerman (Ashkelon, Israel/Ort Afrians Ranson) will look to close out his collegiate career with a fourth NCAA title in the epee competition. Zingerman recently placed fourth at last weekend’s NCAA Midwest Regional competition.

Junior Jakub Gibczynski (Lodz, Poland/Lodz) will be taking part in his third consecutive NCAA Championship in the sabre. Gibczynski came in 10th as a freshman in 2007-08 and 20th as a sophomore in 2008-09.

On the women’s side, freshman Olivia Dobbs (Detroit, Mich./Farmington High School) will make her first championship appearance. Dobbs has had a successful freshman campaign, placing 15th at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championship and seventh at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship.

Last year the WSU men’s and women’s teams combined to place 14th in the nation.

The women’s competition will take place March 25-26 while the men will begin on March 27 and conclude on the March 28.
