DETROIT - Nine members of the 2009-10 Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team were named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic Team. The Warriors finished second at the 2010 GLIAC Championships and third at the NCAA Championships.
To be eligible for GLIAC All-Academic status, a student athlete must have: a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); must be a starter or key reserve; and must not be a freshman or first-year transfer.
Selected to the GLIAC All-Academic team were seniors
Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil),
James Ekleberry (Rochester Hills, Mich./Avondale), and
Justin Shields (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay); juniors
Ben Dueweke (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), and
Matt Victor (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay); and sophomores
Alex Bordyukov (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South),
Matthew Laschuk (Tecumseh, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile),
Jimmy Lee (Windsor, Ont./Riverside), and
Justin Rauhoff (Richland, Mich./Comstock).
Bedran, Ekleberry, and Shields earned the award for the third time in their careers, while Dueweke and Victor became two-time honorees. Bordyukov, Laschuk, Lee, and Rauhoff were all eligible for the first time this season.
