BAY CITY, Mich. - Wayne State University senior forward
Talisha Bridges (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) and Ashland University senior forward
Daiva Gerbec (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) have been chosen as the GLIAC Women's Basketball North and South Division "Players of the Week", respectively.
Talisha Bridges used a pair of 16-point performances to take home the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award from the inaugural WSU/Waste Management Holiday Classic on Dec. 28-29.
She notched her second double-double of the year in a 70-66 win against Hillsdale on Thursday with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Bridges' 25 points led the Warriors in the overtime loss to Findlay including the final bucket of regulation with only five seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
This honor marks the first such award for a Warrior women's basketball player since
Phaebre Colbert won back-to-back awards in her sophomore season of 2010-11.
The WSU women's basketball squad will take a 7-4 overall record and a 5-2 GLIAC mark into Thursday's home contest against Northwood. Tip-off at the Matthaei is slated for 8 p.m.
