DETROIT -- Wayne State University women's tennis head coach
Sheila Snyder, who is in her 28th season leading the Warrior women's tennis program, has announced the signing of
Kayla Grundy (Grand Blanc, Mich.) to a National Letter of Intent during the NCAAs early signing period.
Grundy, who will graduate this spring from Grand Blanc High School, has earned MHSTeCA (Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association) All-State honors each of her first three seasons. After being named Honorable Mention Division I All-State in singles as a freshman, Kayla was selected to the First Team All-State in both 2015 and 2016. She will earn her fourth varsity tennis letter for coach Don Leavy this spring and will also serve as the team captain. Kayla was named the team Most Valuable Player each of her first three seasons with the Bobcats. Last spring, she lost in the second round of the 2016 MHSAA Division I State Tournament at No. 1 singles.
The daughter of Art and Lisa Grundy, she is undecided on her academic major.
WSU has two seniors that will be completing their eligibility this spring in
Lauren Hughes and
Ashley Walker, while 2015 GLIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Year
Andreea Mitrache will return in the fall of 2017 after missing all of 2016-17 due to an injury.
The Warriors have qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament in nine of the last 12 seasons and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2014 after setting a program record with a 25-5 mark.
