WSU's Mitrache Selected To Receive GLIAC Commissioner's Award

The junior was voted the GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year in the fall.

BAY CITY, Mich. -- Wayne State University junior women's tennis student-athlete Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) has been selected to receive a 2015 GLIAC Fall Commissioner's Award.

Mitrache's selection gives WSU 35 GLIAC Commissioner's Award honorees since the inception of the program in the fall of 2007.  The awards are presented after the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons to six female and six male GLIAC student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play. All grade-point averages are based on a 4.0 scale.

Mitrache was voted the 2015 GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year and was also selected to the All-GLIAC First Team for a second consecutive year.  She posted an undefeated (12-0) record at the top singles flight for the Warriors and was No. 5 in the ITA Midwest Regional rankings at the conclusion of the fall season.
 
For her collegiate career, Mitrache has a 47-10 career singles record along with a 42-17 career doubles mark.  She already ranks in the top 10 in career singles wins.
 
A double major in psychology and Spanish honors, Mitrache maintains a 3.87 cumulative grade-point average. She has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) all five semesters with two 4.00 terms. Mitrache also earned a spot on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for a second straight season in the fall.

The other female honorees are Danielle Dowd (Ferris State), Alexis Huntley (Ferris State), Clare Carlson (Grand Valley State), Marti Corby (Grand Valley State) and Emily Oren (Hillsdale).  The six male recipients are Justin Zimmer (Ferris State), Jason Vander Laan (Ferris State), Chris Reaper (Findlay), Ryan Roush (Malone), Brett Gervais (Michigan Tech) and Johannes Sterobo (Northwood).
