DETROIT -- Senior right-handed pitcher
Alex Kinch (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) has been selected as a Midwest Region Gold Glove Nominee by the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association).
The list recognizes the best defensive players in each region and is voted on by each coach in the region. Kinch posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, not making an error in 20 chances. He also picked off three runners.
Kinch ended his final season with the Green & Gold with an 8-5 record and a 3.46 ERA in 15 appearances (14 starts), while striking out 97 batters in 91 innings. He notched five complete games including a shutout. Opponents hit just .256 against the First Team All-GLIAC selection. The senior right-hander ranks third in the league in wins (8), third in strikeouts (97), fifth in ERA (3.46) and second in complete games (5). He was named GLIAC North Pitcher of the Week on May 2 after striking out a career-high 12 batters vs. Findlay on April 30. Kinch finishes his career tied with Anthony Bass for third in program history with 21 career victories. He also ranks third all-time in career innings pitched (248.1) and starts (41). His 198 career strikeouts is sixth and his .656 winning percentage is tied-for-10th all-time.
He will now wait to see if he will be a Gold Glover winner when the national team is announced in June.
