Coaches Compliance Forms
Friends of Wayne State Athletics,
With the holiday season rapidly approaching, we want to remind you of what is acceptable in the time of giving when dealing with our current and prospective student athletes. First it is important to determine if you must follow the rules surrounding a representative of athletics interest.
You are considered a
"Representative of Athletics Interest" (booster) if you:
• Are or have been a member of any organization promoting Wayne State athletics.
• Have ever made a donation to the Athletic Department or any booster organization.
• Have ever assisted in evaluating or recruiting prospects.
• Have ever helped to arrange or have provided employment to enrolled student-athletes, prospects, or their parents or relatives.
• Participated in the Wayne State athletics program.
•Once you become a Representative of Athletics Interests, you retain this status FOREVER.
Permissible
• If desired, provide an occasional meal for student-athletes. Although the meal must be in the home of the representative of athletics interest, it may be catered. Reasonable transportation to and from may be provided for the athletes attending the meal.
• Continue normal contact with prospects with whom you have pre-established relationships, as long as the contacts are not recruiting related.
• Attend games where prospects are competing, as long as no contact is made with the prospect or prospect's parents.
• Accept a phone call from a prospect, as long as the prospect initiates the call. All questions regarding the institution's athletics department should be directed back to the athletics department.
Impermissible
• Provide a prospective student athlete, his/her parents, relatives, friends, or coaches with any material benefit.
• Make recruiting presentations to groups of prospective student-athletes.
• Make in person on or off-campus recruiting contact, telephone calls, or establish written correspondence with prospective student-athletes.
• Entertain or provide awards or gifts for a current student-athlete, his/her family and friends.
• Use a student-athlete's name, picture, or appearance to promote sales or advertise the use of a commercial product or service.
• Provide a currently enrolled student-athlete with complimentary tickets to a professional sporting event, concert, movie, etc.
Please keep in mind, it is possible to jeopardize the eligibility of the athletes with just one act of kindness!!! Please ask before you act. You can contact the compliance office at 313-577-0590 with any questions you may have.
