NCAA conducted a women's fencing NCAA Championship from 1982-1989. Since 1990, men's and women's fencing results are combined into one championship. In 2026, the NCAA reverted back to separate championships for the men and women.
WSU's three national team titles during the women's championship was the most of any school. Yale won twice (1984-85), while Notre Dame (1987), Penn State (1983), and Pennsylvania (1986) each won one national team title.
