DETROIT - Wayne State University sophomore swimmer
Matthew Laschuk (Tecumseh, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile) has been selected to the CoSIDA/
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large College Division Second Team, as voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Laschuk is a chemistry/pre-medicine major at WSU with a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average. He has been named to the Wayne State Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) every semester.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. The Men’s At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo.
Laschuk, who was also an
NCAA Elite 88 Award winner in 2010, collected six All-America honors in the pool at the NCAA Championships in March. He was also the runner-up in the 200 butterfly at the GLIAC Championships in February and contributed to the 800 freestyle relay which won the conference title.
